Brad Angelo joins us today to discuss the the incident that leaked on Youtube this week. Hear Brad’s thoughts on the incident and what he thought about the incident after he watched it. We also talk about the Brunswick line and why Brad feels they are putting out some great pieces that bowlers need to take a look at. Brad also talks about the #1 thing an amateur bowler needs to do to take that next step and improve their game. Brad talks about how Rick Benoit influenced his game, and why seeing a lane to scale is key for bowlers.

I practice; of all places; when the kids are throwing just so I can get used to having a bunch of noise around me. If Brad cant handle a bottle noise, I’d say for him to get over it and work on his focus.
I can see both sides on this one. I mean we are used to loud bowling alleys cause we bowl in them every week. You can’t tell me there hasn’t been a time when you stepped on the lanes and you’ve been distracted in some form. (someone falls off of their follow through onto your lane, steps on the approach as the time as you, etc.) Point of the story is that it forces you to go through your pre-shot routine all over again, and makes you think about your shot longer than you wanted to. Simply it takes you out of rhythm. How many times this year have you heard bowlers complain about the tv breaks and how it messes them up. Does a water bottle cost you a tournament, NO, but you gotta feel for a guy that was hitting the pocket consistently, gets thrown off of his game, and ends up losing a match by 9 pins cause his opponent threw his game off. Literally after the incident, Brad throw whats five spare shots in a row. I feel for ya Brad! Go Brunswick! More importantly though who out there can help me with understanding ball motion as Brad describes.
There’s no question in my mind Brad can easily handle the noises in a busy bowling alley. It’s when everyone is trying to be quiet (as on a telecast), and a noise comes out of nowhere when the bowler is at the top of the backswing, it tends to throw one off. Bowling with kiddy birthday parties going on either side of you is a good way to learn concentration and “tunnel vision” but it’s not the same thing as what happened on TV. I think it was more a case of carelessness than gamesmanship, but these guys are under enough pressure to perform on TV without the other players sabotaging their shots.
First of all i would want to say i have been lucky enough to meet belmo and brad, and i understand what happened to both sides.
Belmo is a gentlemen, and i do believe he did’nt mean to do anything unsportsmanlike(if thats a word). And i completely understand Brad’s point of view, as a competitive bowler, there’s just some times that stuff gets in your way, and it’s hard to concentrate when some random noise or movement happens, it has happened to a lot of people on TV, usually its the audience or the camera crew, this time it was Belmo’s watter bottle. It happens :S
On the other subject, i strongly believe everything that Brad said about Rick and about Brunswick’s ball motion is completely true. Rick also taught me what to look for when im trying to line up and make adjustments, and how to deal with pretty much everything you see out there.
Definately something that’s game-changing. IMO, one of the best things that happened to me as a bowler was having the opportunity to work with Rick, and learning anything i could from him. Not to take any credit from other ball reps, or coaches, he is just the one that helped me out the most.
I hope to get back out on tour soon enough, i miss it 🙂
And to anyone that’s reading this post that remembers me, Hello!

I don’t know what’s up with some pro’s that they have to squeeze
plastic bottles to try and win a game. That should of been reviewed like other sports because that was a cheap shot…The telecast clearly showed that Jason squeezed the bottle when Brad threw his ball, that was the third time. That wasn’t an accident. Then to smooth it over after the game Jason had a story which we all heard was false. Sorry Brad, were talking about
big money here and it cost you big time. Hope somebody from PBA really looks into it……GOOD LUCK
If I hadn’t witnessed myself at the TOC back in January, I would probably have said JB had no bad intentions, but during the TOC qualifying I was watching a friend who happened to be bowling beside JB through the final qualifying round and at the end of each game with my friend on anybody else on my friends pair JB consistantly would step up on the approach to remove his equipment so that he go go to his next pair…seems like a pattern

When Mr. Angelo threw his fit on camera, he said it was the 3rd time it had happened. I’d like to know why Mr. Angelo didn’t talk to Mr. Belmonte about it, the FIRST time it happened. The little clip that the PBA put out, doesn’t tell the whole story. Watch the entire match. You’ll see Angelo make a bad shot, just prior to the commercial break. He stares at Belmonte and then goes back to his seat and starts playing with his water bottle. Clearly, something was going on. Why didn’t Mr. Angelo talk to Mr. Belmonte at the perfect opportunity afforded by the commercial break? He didn’t do that. He waited until he was on camera to throw a fit. I’ll use Mr. Angelo’s TV words here. C’mon Brad, you know better than that!
But, seriously, you are at the top of your backswing and you’re not focused so much on your shot that you hear a water bottle? Really??? You’re right, Mr. Angelo, even when you’re explaining it, it’s sounds goofy and petty. Making a scene on camera was very poor sportsmanship, IMO.
Having just watched a similar incident involving Sean Rash it looks to me like this is a pattern with Belmonte. He’s trying to distract his opponent, and it’s poor sportsmanship in my opinion.
