In a game where the mindset of harder and faster seems to overstep the concepts of control and finesse, it becomes a rarity for bowlers to grasp the finer points of adjusting. In this week’s look at a unique accessory in a book that is dedicated to helping bowlers make those correct movements and bring their game to the next level. “True Bowler Adjustments” addresses many of the problems bowlers face in the modern game and relays information in a comprehensive and enlightening way.

Written by USBC Silver Certified Coach Gary Oatis, “True Bowler Adjustments” offers help to bowlers of all skill levels with a variety of topics that haven‘t been put into print very often since the invention of the modern game. Topics such as body adjustments, eye and target formation and personal reflection all relate to the readers with a flair of sincerity and comprehension that is easy to use and easier to understand.

I was fortunate enough to speak with Coach Oatis and get his insight on his reasoning for writing the book. He explained to me his bringing up in the sport, learning the ins and outs and perfecting his own game from those around him. “Things changed over the years,“ Coach Oatis explained. “Guys like Don Carter, Earl Anthony, Dick Weber… They were the bowling guys. They would work with the bowlers and they would show them how to do it. I just felt we got to a point where we stopped teaching the ‘Joe Bowler’ how to bowl very well.”

Coach Oatis went on to share some opinions on the modern game the a lack of credible knowledge available to incoming bowlers. “We, the better bowlers, just let the new ones go out and compete without any kind of literature or information,” Coach Oatis continued. “For the last 20 years it was like many of the bowlers didn’t want new ones coming into the game and topping us with modern equipment. I just wanted to share what I knew as a top level bowler with other bowlers and hopefully improve their game.”

In my own reading of Coach Oatis’ book, I am in agreement that many of the techniques and strategies he describes are relevant and essential to improving your game. The overlap of knowledge from one generation to the next is vastly overlooked and “True Bowler Adjustments” fills that gap. Coach Oatis allows bowlers to reach their full potential and to develop personal strategies to perfect their game. If I had any complaint it would be that more coaches and instructors do not take advantage of the information provided and instead keep bowlers in the dark.

With several thousand books sold Coach Oatis has seemingly tapped into an area that was in vast need of assistance. Using the motto “They know how to bowl, show them how to ‘adjust!,’” Coach Oatis successfully implants his ideas into the reader and markets techniques that have immense rewards. I would highly recommend checking out “True Bowler Adjustments” by visiting his website at WWW.TRUEBOWLERADJUSTMENTS.COM or finding a copy of his book on Amazon.com.

Stay tuned next week as we take a look at yet another unique accessory in “What Happened To Bowling.” As always, I welcome your comments and ask is there something you’d like to see reviewed? Let me know.

There are many fine books and methods to learn bowling . Everyone seems to have a TAKE on it and that doesn’t always make them right. Shop around and find one that best suits your game and your level of understanding of the game before you shell out unnessasary big bucks
